H1 talked me into letting her have a "few" girls over on Friday night. I was a tad bit nervous because I had not spent time with a few of these girls to know how well they behaved if you know what I mean. It started something like this:
H1: "Mom, can I have a few friends over for a sleepover?"
Me: "How many is 'a few'?"
H1: (making a list) "only 15."Me: "OnLy FIFTEEN???!?!?! . . No.. Narrow it down some.
a few minutes later. . . .
H1: "Ok, I took a few off."
Me: "How many?"H1: "11."
Me: " Cool! You took 11 off?! Very nice! Absolutely!"
H1: "NO. . I got it down to 11 on the list."
Me: "oh. . . Um, keep going."
H1: "Mom . . . "
Me: "If there are that many girls I will be more strict than normal."
H1: "Ok." (with an irritated "can you get more strict" type of reaction)
The beginning of the week of the sleepover that has now become a party:
H1: "Mom, can I add another girl because blah blah blah blah . . . ."
(sorry, that's all I heard as I pictured a group of girls taking over my house)
(sorry, that's all I heard as I pictured a group of girls taking over my house)
Me: "What's one more girl? But no more."
H1: "Ok."
The next day . .
H1: "Mom. . . Can I. . ."
Me: "Whatever, BUT NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!! Or I will cancel the entire thing."We ended up with a total of 14 including my daughter.
When the girls arrived. . . Let me back up. Because there were SO many of them, they had to walk home from school. Thank goodness for no rain that day (at the time they got out of school anyway, as you can see on some of the photos, it sprinkled a bit in the evening). We don't live that far from the school so the girls were happy to walk. I had promised a mom that I would follow them home. After the girls dropped everything off in the back of my vehicle, they were on their way.
Now, once the girls all got settled in H1's room, I went up with a tablet and a pen. I announced that I needed names and phone numbers of their parents. If anything should go wrong like drama, an emergency, drama, or something along those lines, drama, I would have a way to contact their parents for them to come and pick them up. I also informed the girls of what I had planned as far as food and snacks. They were definitely ready to eat.
After I headed downstairs with my list in hand, the girls were changing their clothes and things to go outside. Cool, so far so good, granted it was only 30 minutes into the "Party". The girls headed outside and I headed to the kitchen. I had baked over 48 cupcakes for them to decorate and eat. I baked over 48, but held about half a dozen back. They were the 'extras'. As I finished coloring the icing I heard the girls come in. They were H.u.N.g.R.y! They walked into the kitchen with a growl, ok, not really, but almost. Headed straight for the sanitizer cupcakes and went crazy. I grabbed H4 before he got iced and munched on. I do have to say, they were very neat about icing their cupcakes. I figured icing would be all over the floor, table and cupcake tray. They ate what they could and headed upstairs for giggling, stories, make-up, and whatever else they did.
I took pizza orders as they wrote down their phone numbers earlier, so I ordered 7 pizzas for them and a few for us (our 3 boys, my mom and her husband and me). Once the pizzas arrived, a few girls grabbed them up and headed for the kitchen. I quickly directed them and their pizzas upstairs to our loft. No offense, but I REALLY did not want 14 girls downstairs in my calm personal space, it was too early in the evening for that. They had everything they needed upstairs, hand sanitizer, pizzas, plates, napkins and bottled water (I may be a little crazy, but I refused to give them pop). Before I could get all the boxes of pizzas opened 2 pizzas were gone! And only a few girls new that I had brought them up?! This is NOT a good sign. LoL.
As I entered the kitchen to get our pizzas ready, I noticed the almost empty cupcake tray. It had 1, ONE, cupcake left on it! Oh my.
After pizza, the girls decided to go outside and play Hide & Seek or Sardines or something along those lines. So they put their dark clothes on and headed out. The 'seekers' would come inside and wait while the others were hiding. (While they were waiting they decided to eat OUR pizza too!) I noticed the mud on their clothes and asked the girls if their parents would be irritated that their clothes were getting muddy. They all responded with "They won't care." Ok, good, carry on with your fun. At the time, this is what their clothes and shoes looked like:
Nothing major. Just wanted to make sure they wouldn't get in trouble. (And wanted to make sure I wouldn't be receiving phone calls.)
Some of the girls were starting to get a bit chilly, so they all took a break for a little while. After they were warmed up they headed back out, only to come back in looking like this:
And our yard? This is only a small part of it. I'm glad it was warm enough for them to enjoy playing outside, but would it have been too much to ask for the ground to still be frozen? Nothing a rake and some grass seed can't fix.
They at least did a good job of cleaning up. They scrubbed their clothes, hands and then after all of that was done, their bodies.
This was a REALLY great group of girls. There wasn't any drama! A couple of girls received minor injuries, one burnt her hand on a hair straightener (nothing major, just a red mark) and the other ran into a fence and hurt her wrist (she must have been running pretty fast because it required an ice pack and a close eye throughout the night--it was fine though). I'm still in shock that I haven't received an email from our Neighborhood Alert System warning neighbors about a group of kids running around houses on Friday night and to be on the look out for that. They urge neighbors to call the police in situations like that. LoL. I'm thankful we didn't have the pleasure of meeting any of our wonderful local law enforcement that night.
I feel bad, I didn't get all of the girls in 1 photo. I did group photos outside, but 1 of the girls had to leave for swim practice so she wasn't in them. I felt bad, but not bad enough to go through this again. They were a great group of girls, however, I did NOT realize how much girls can eat! 48 cupcakes, 7 pizzas, a batch of brownies, 6 bags of microwave popcorn, 3 bags of cheesy puff popcorn later, I know NOW!!
