A Quick Recap

I have wondered how so many stay at home moms find things to write about. I have read a couple of blogs to get "inspired". There are a lot of things going on in our house, trust me.

For instance, in the past month or so, HumV has been home (for about 2 weeks), then gone (for about 4-5 weeks), then home (for 2 weeks), then gone (for about 2 and a half weeks), home for Christmas (just shy of 3 days) then gone again (and will be until the end of January or mid February). Ok, take a breath now. Whew!

Reading on. . .
We were told he would have the entire month of December off. After learning this, I went and found a part-time job so that I could have a break and he could have run of the house (ahhhh, *sigh*). I went back to my most recent place of employment and was hired. It really was that easy, almost. Everyone greeted me with open arms (really, I received quite a few hugs and LOTS of smiles, and of course a lot of "welcome backs" and "we're so glad to have you back!"). It was a wonderful feeling. They didn't understand that, as nice as it was to be back (only because I knew it was temporary), this was vacation for me! I think HumV was surprised to hear that I wanted to go back to work while he was home. Shoot, I wanted the kids needed a break! Just a short one though. I wanted time with him, but knew I would get it because I was only going to work part-time. In my eyes, it was important for him and the children to have time together, even if it was getting them up and ready for school. My hours were 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. (which actually meant til I was done or wanted to leave, I like jobs like that!). I think the latest I came home was around 12:30 p.m. or so. So I didn't miss much, but it was a NICE break.

I had to laugh, I was literally put back into the position I left approximately a year and a half ago. So on my first day back, I trained 4 new people. On my second day, I trained another 4 people. On my third day, I trained 1 person. Most of the people were the same people on day 1 and 2, but it cracked me up! It was a good feeling to have the no-strings attached type of responsibility. All of the upper management knew my return was temporary. But no one knew how short my temporary position would last.

The day after my 2nd day of work, HumV received a call. This call was from his boss stating that he had a position for HumV, in Minnesota. He would leave for Buffalo, MN a few days after this call. So on my 3rd day of work, I broke the news to my boss who said she would keep my position open to me whenever I could come back even if only for a couple of days here and there.

After HumV got off of the phone that evening we walked around the house with a whiplash type of feeling. Ya know the one, where something hit you from behind and you don't know what just happened. We had an emotional couple of days. He spent some time on the phone with other guys that were already there, talking about weather and hotels and things. What we really wanted to do was sit and cry together. We were told he would be home the entire month of December! Um, what just happened? One minute everything was fine, we were talking about all of the appointments he had made and everything he had planned for the kids and the next minute he's walking out the door headed for Minnesota. This was a new move for this job. We hadn't had this type of situation happen to us yet. I guess maybe because he's always stayed working through everything. We had never been told he would have "guaranteed" time off before. (we should've known better)
For the next few days after he left, I didn't go anywhere. I was a little "off". I had misplaced a few things and couldn't find them and was getting emotional over just about everything. And my ill feelings for Christmas got worse. This time hit me hard. So for a few days I was in a daze, not to mention how this affected the kids, especially H4 because he didn't understand.
We made it through the 2 and a half weeks that HumV was gone and it was already Christmas Eve (I make it sound like it went fast). My mom and her husband were coming to have dinner and spend the night. I was finishing up cleaning and getting things picked up and last minute things done. HumV would keep me posted as to where he was and how the roads were. Minnesota was suppose to be getting a big snow storm and that could have been bad for him being on the roads and all. I was just about done with things and had dinner going when my mom and her husband arrived. We had been chatting for a bit when I heard the front door open. H2 had run out the door for some reason? As I looked up the door opened back up a bit, there went H1, H3 and H4! What on earth!?! IT WAS HUMV!!! He arrived home 7 hours earlier than planned!!!! WE WERE EXCITED! Poor H4 had fallen out the door trying to get to daddy so fast. He was ok, honestly I don't even think it phased him. It was an exciting evening! I couldn't believe HumV had surprised us like that. What a wonderful surprise!

We had a wonderful Christmas. We had a wonderful weekend with HumV, rushed and quick, but it was SO nice having him back home. Unfortunately he had to head out on Sunday after Christmas with no idea of when he would be returning. We are thankful for technology allowing us to communicate throughout the day via text message. We talk when we can, mostly during the evening. This current job doesn't keep him as busy as the last job that he was on. The last job worked him 7 days a week. He's somewhat thankful for that, but on the other hand, it at least helped time pass by quickly.

The children have been keeping busy, now that school is back in. It was nice to have them home for the 2 weeks. H1 and H2 agreed that they were ready to be home schooled again. Whoa! H1 saying that shocked me! H2 has been ready for awhile now. H3 really enjoys his teacher so he's enjoying being back in school (which is weird because he's the one that didn't want to go back to school in the first place). Happy for that though.

So this pretty much gets you up to date on what has been going on with us. See, maybe it's not that I haven't had anything to blog about, maybe it's just that I haven't made time to blog. We'll work on that.

Wonder where all of my time goes anyway?

Oh, did I tell you that I'm attending an online college? Yep. We'll save that for another post.
